In Kotter's eight-step change model, after you’ve developed a clear change vision, the next essential move is to communicate that vision throughout the organization. Sharing the vision broadly helps people understand the direction, why the change is needed, and how their roles fit into the future. This shared understanding builds buy-in, reduces uncertainty, and starts aligning daily actions with the new direction. Without effective communication, the vision remains abstract and momentum stalls, making it harder to mobilize the organization for the steps that follow. The other steps fit earlier or later in the sequence: forming a guiding coalition helps establish the basis for the change, while empowering broad-based action and generating short-term wins come after people understand and accept the vision.
